Although they face many challenges specific to their size, there is very little leadership training tailored to the needs of small and micro charities. In addition, leaders working with BAME communities often face additional challenges that reflect the challenges faced by the community they work with.
Our Community Leaders Programme is tailored to address the specific challenges faced by those leading small groups and organisations working with BAME communities.
Launched in June 2019, the programme works with leaders from voluntary and community groups across Lewisham, supporting them to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to maximise their own and their group’s effectiveness.
The programme covers 6 key leadership competencies for voluntary and community sector leaders: vision and goal setting; fundraising and financial oversight; collaborating towards sustainable development; influencing local policy makers; recruiting and developing support; and leading in a digital age.
Through a comprehensive assessment, participants are supported to identify their own leadership capacity relative to the needs of their organisation. Participants then undertake a series of activities, including individual mentoring, group coaching, sessions
with guest speakers and workshops. They also work in small groups to develop a shared plan to address a key challenge for local groups.
