Pathways to Professions Programme launches

We’re delighted to announce the launch of our Pathways to Professions programme, funded by the Clothworkers’ Foundation’s Better Futures initiative, which will provide young people from disadvantaged and under-represented backgrounds with career-focused learning and opportunities.

Pathways to Professions is a three-year programme which will help young people to understand the breadth of career opportunities available in today’s economy and support them in acquiring the requisite skills for success in the workplaces of the future.

The programme is aimed at students aged 13-15, when most are choosing their GCSE options.  This is often the first time young people have made serious decisions about their own futures.  We believe that it is important to embed high-quality careers guidance at key educational moments like this to enable young people to make informed choices while also inspiring them to consider careers they may not have thought about before.

Pathways to Professions follows our highly successful Transitions programme, which ran from 2016 to 2018 and delivered tailored activities to over 1,000 school-aged pupils in London, including workplace visits, a series of inspirational talks and one-to-one mentoring with professionals from a wide range of industries.

I feel more confident about achieving my goals because the programme has introduced me to jobs that I wouldn’t have thought of before

Phoebe, Year 9 student, Transitions Programme

The most beneficial part of the programme was the trips because I got to see how different jobs work and saw different areas, which widened my horizons of different job opportunities.

Miski, Year 10 student, Transitions Programme

Pathways to Professions will take much of the learning from the Transitions programme and expand the reach of the Trust’s work beyond London to Birmingham and Manchester.  Both cities are places that we have began to work in as a result of the inaugural national Stephen Lawrence Day on the 22nd April 2019, celebrating the life and legacy of Stephen Lawrence and encouraging young people to ‘live their best life’.  We want to continue to guide and support young people with the launch of the new programme, and inspire them to make positive changes in their own lives as well as the lives of others in their communities.
