SPAB Scholarship 2020 applications open!
The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings Lethaby Scholarship offers an unrivalled training opportunity to architects, surveyors and engineers in the early stages of their career to spend nine months traveling countrywide together, learning on site from architects and specialist craftspeople working in building conservation. Many Scholars are now among the leading conservation experts in the UK and overseas, looking after a wide range of historic buildings and sites.
Each year we accept 3-4 candidates, there are no course fees and we offer a modest bursary to cover living expenses. Architects, building surveyors and structural engineers who have completed their formal training and have some experience working in their field are eligible. See also our partner Fellowship programme for building craftspeople.

“The scholarship delivers everything that’s lacking from a formal architectural education. This is how we should be learning, by watching stone cut out from a quarry face, by staying up all night stoking a lime kiln, by grasping handfuls of aggregates to feel the textures, by running an architrave in lime plaster onto some split oak laths.” Matt Loosley, Architect and 2018 Scholar.
Within your application please state that you heard about the opportunity through the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust.
