Salary level: £21,000- £23,000 plus benefits
Hours: 37 hours per week (full time)
Contract level: 1-year fixed term

Background to the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust:

The Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust runs high impact programmes that inspire and enable young people from under-represented backgrounds to succeed.  We work with young people and communities to broaden their view of what’s possible and help them gain the knowledge, skills and qualifications they need.

The Trust seeks to be a fitting memorial to Stephen by striving to develop a cohesive society that values and supports young people from diverse backgrounds and is dedicated to creating a more equal society.  The Trust also works with government, business and communities to create a society in which everyone, regardless of their background, has the opportunity and support to flourish.

Following a number of strategic discussions between Baroness Doreen Lawrence and the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust, the Prime Minister announced that the Government will work with the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust to establish a lasting legacy in Stephen’s name.  The inaugural Day will be on the 22nd April 2019.

The Stephen Lawrence Day will provide an opportunity for schools, youth and community groups, charities and others to come together to deliver a range of positive activities including; school-based early years activities, programmes to encourage young people to reject the recent increases in serious violence, and events to promote community integration.

The Building Futures programmes seeks to embed a culture of cross-sectoral working between professional built environment, firms, colleges, and our charity, and breaking down traditional barriers in order for young people to access a career in the Built Environment.

Expanding on the Building Futures Programme and structure, we have begun working with urban regeneration architecture practices to deliver meaningful Social Value enhancement. programmes across the capital, with a portfolio spanning work in Enfield, Harrow, South Kilburn, Wembley, Brent and other boroughs across London.

The main purpose of this post is:

  • To deliver the Trust’s Built Environment programmes and support the growth of our work with industry and corporates.
  • Create and promote varied opportunities (workshops, mentoring and work placement) for the SLCT architecture alumni through effective communication with our partner architecture practices.
  • Delivering community engagement workshops as part of our Social Value Programmes and assist Head of Programmes in writing Social Value proposals in collaboration with architecture practices.
  • To extend the Stephen Lawrence Building Futures programme and to support aspiring young people from diverse backgrounds wishing to pursue careers in the built environment.
  • To develop the offer pool for Building Futures by expanding eligibility criteria to include younger recipients and delivering workshops/ talks in Schools as part of Stephen Lawrence Day.
  • To secure funding from Trusts, Foundations, corporate and individual supporters, to enable the development of the Building Futures programme including all required reporting and evaluation.
  • Promoting our new online portal for Built Environment opportunities and communicate offerings for Alumni/ Students who join SLCT friendship scheme.
  • Developing relationships with further and higher education institutions and architecture firms to effectively promote and expand the Building Futures programme.
  • Assist in the Connecting People and Places programme that researches Heritage that is important to BAME communities in England.

General matters:

•Keep abreast of developments, changes and best practice in the field of talent development and employment, applying updated knowledge to current work and sharing information with other staff of the Trust

•   Knowledge of the Built Environment (careers, education and development)

•   Undertake any other duties which may arise from time to time, commensurate with the scope of the post and within the capabilities of the post holder

•   This post is subject to a Disclosure and Baring Service (DBS) check

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ROLE REQUIREMENTS

·Strong communication skills both written and oral

·IT skills including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

·Knowledge of the architecture and built environment sector

 

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

·Willingness and ability to work outside of normal office hours

·Willingness to work flexibly in response to changing organisational requirements
