As one of the largest manufacturers of building products in the UK, Forterra have donated £10,000 to The Stephen Lawrence Building Futures Programme. The sponsorship campaign which was launch earlier this year by The Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust, aims to sustain the charities flagship diversity and inclusion programme, which supports young aspiring architects between 16-30 years of age, has received a huge push toward its target thanks to the generous donation from Forterra.
Stephen Harrison, Chief Executive of Forterra, said, “The good work of the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust helps ensure that young people from all backgrounds have the opportunity to enter the construction industry, including the field of architecture, just as Stephen Lawrence aspired to. We want our support for the Trust to go towards these efforts, and to make a real difference in young people’s lives.”
The Building Futures Programme has supported over 350 young people to date who are all seeking careers in the built environment profession.
Sonia Watson, Chief Executive of Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust said, ‘To receive the support from Forterra has been instrumental in helping the Trust to award more bursaries thank ever in this, the 25th anniversary year of Stephen’s murder before he could realise his own aspiration to become an Architect. We are determined to ensure that the spaces and places we inhabit are designed and constructed by us all. The Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust relies solely on public donations to achieve this. Thank you Forterra for being part of that journey’.
