The Lewisham Young Leaders Academy (LYLA) Project is a programme committed to providing leadership development and training to young people aged 15-24 representing the diversity of racial, ethnic and socioeconomic groups in Lewisham.
The Goal of the LYLA is to help strengthen and develop personal leadership of aspiring young leaders from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds living in Lewisham and Greenwich.
Developing personal leadership and civic mindedness is essential in this rapidly changing environment of cutbacks to social services. But which skills are exactly needed as a young leader, while being part of ethnic minority group? Collaborating with peers in your community?
How cooperative models can be attractive to young people and what form this cooperation will take in future?
Most importantly: what skills will young people, need to develop and thrive in this transition? These questions, among others, will be explored during the Lewisham Youth Leadership Academy programme.
